HEATHER K. BRICKMAN concentrates her practice in all phases of school law, including transactions and finance, governance, and personnel issues. She is a frequent lecturer on behalf of the Illinois Association of School Business Officials, the Illinois Association of School Boards and other school associations on a broad range of topics, including current legislative issues, employee benefits, and general board governance issues. Ms. Brickman is an experienced trainer in employee evaluation and joint school and law enforcement crisis prevention and response. She currently serves on, and is a former chair of, the Executive Committee of the Illinois Council of School Attorneys and as a member of the Policy Advisory Committee of the Illinois Association of School Boards, and previously served on a Committee of the Governor's Commission on Recodification of the Illinois School Code. She is co-author of a chapter in the American Bar Association book, School Violence: from Discipline to Due Process and National School Boards Association publications, Selecting and Contracting with Construction Managers and Planning for a Terrorist Attack on Schools: Practical and Legal Considerations, as well as numerous recent articles on benefits, annuities and deferred compensation. She also serves on the board of an educational and charitable nonprofit entity, Empower a Child. Ms. Brickman graduated with honors from Illinois Wesleyan University and received her law degree in 1991 with high honors from the University of Illinois College of Law. |
